About Me
Hi there!
I am Séléna, welcome to my travel blog.
This is where I share my travel diaries, personal itineraries, tips and tricks that I have learned from my own experience and lots of honest impressions always with the hope that it might inspire your next trip or make planning it just a bit easier.
I am a 28-year-old French girl from Alsace, a region in eastern France, and this blog was born from my love for travel and storytelling. I chose to write in English for two main reasons: first, so my boyfriend, who usually tags along on my adventures and doesn’t speak French, can actually understand what I’m writing; and second, because writing in English allows me to reach a wider audience beyond France.
Who knows, maybe one day this blog will become trilingual in English, French, and German. While English is not my native language and a few grammar mistakes might sneak in here and there, I am doing my best and learning along the way. Thanks for bearing with me and for being part of the journey!
I have a full time job so I mainly try to travel during the few days off that I get from work. Usually my travel style is more budget-friendly, but every now and then I like to enjoy something a little extra, something that makes the trip feel even more memorable.
Since I started working, I wanted to save enough money to be able to travel on my own. What do they say? Work to live, not live to work? That is the motto I am trying to follow.
My love for travel started with my dad, who used to take my mother and I on holidays when I was younger. To be fair, I did not always appreciate the priviledge back then. I knew I was lucky to be able to travel so much with my parents, but it was always a lot of “more rocks”, “boring mountains” or “annoying beaches”. Looking back now, I have no idea how I managed to be bored in places like Greece, Thailand, Indonesia, or Egypt. Who rolls their eyes at turquoise water and ancient temples? Apparently… me. We always travelled for three full weeks, and since I had no friends with me, I spent most of the time feeling dramatically sorry for myself. Poor little me, forced to travel the world, discover new cultures, see amazing landscapes, and taste incredible food. What a nightmare, truly.
Luckily, at some point I got rid of my spoiled-child phase and finally understood what my dad sees in travelling. My parents are still travelling on their own, but I have been wanting to try to discover the world by myself. Now I am the one who wants to explore new places, meet people, appreciate every moment, and collect memories.
But as beautiful as our planet is, travelling comes with consequences. Transport, especially flying, contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Mass tourism also puts pressure on local biodiversity, increases waste generation, and can overcrowd places that are already struggling to cope with large numbers of visitors.
Because of this, I try to avoid taking planes unnecessarily and keep flights limited to longer journeys where alternatives are unrealistic. You won’t find short weekend getaways to the other side of the world here. Ideally, I would like to eliminate flying altogether, and this is something I am actively exploring for my future trips.
All of this to say: I genuinely love travelling, but I am trying to be more mindful about how I travel. That is also why this blog highlights shorter, more sustainable weekend trips within Switzerland, Germany, and France, my neighbouring countries, easily accessible by train or car, and full of beautiful places worth discovering without leaving a heavy footprint.
I am also what you can call a “yapper”, I love going on and on about my day and my adventures, whether they are interesting or not. This is why I wanted to start this blog: to have a place where I can yap about what I love doing: travelling. And then I thought, why not trying to give some advice, according to what I have seen or experienced while I am at it?
You will mostly see photos taken with my Canon 5D or with an iPhone. I really enjoy taking pictures even though I am still learning and trying to edit them here and there. I prefer being behind the camera, capturing the little moments, the tiny details and the beautiful landscapes, but I am trying my best to also pose in front of the camera to actually have some pictures of me to show here as well.
I have already travelled alone once or twice, but I usually travel either with my boyfriend or with friends. Don’t be surprised if you see some pictures of them here and there on this blog. They are most likely the pictures behind the camera whenever I am posting a picture of myself, so I might as well thank them here for putting up with me, travelling with me and taking great pictures alltogether.
